Guarantees and surety

Apply for a bond, a guarantee or a surety facility

The questionnaire the desk works from. It asks about the company rather than the contract — who it is, who owns and directs it, the group it belongs to, the line it needs and the figures it encloses — because surety is underwritten on the applicant and its counter-indemnity. Complete it online below, or download it as a fillable PDF in English or Spanish.

River crossing under construction, Ireland

Before you start

What the underwriter reads first

Two years of accounts and the current figures decide most of the answer. Have them to hand, with the contract, procedure or pliego the security is for and the wording the beneficiary prescribes; the rest of the questionnaire takes a quarter of an hour.

  • Official or audited annual accounts for the last two financial years — individual and, for a group, consolidated
  • Internal accounts for the last closed year, and the quarterly or half-year results of the current year
  • Order book: contracts in progress and awarded, and a history of the activity
  • Land bank, developments in progress and completed, and the mortgage pool — for a real estate activity
  • Text of the customs guarantees requested and the last annual return of operations with third parties — for customs guarantees
  • Energy activity dossier and the administrative status of each installation — for grid access and connection requests

A company that expects several guarantees in a year asks for a facility rather than a single bond: one set of accounts, one counter-indemnity, and each later certificate a call to the desk.

The questionnaire as a PDF

Download it in English or in Spanish

Every answer is an editable field, so the file can be completed in any reader and saved. The last page carries a button that emails the completed questionnaire to the broker desk through your own mail client, with the address printed beside it. Both versions ask the same questions from the same specification; a Spanish broker and the Dublin desk read the same form.

Complete the questionnaire online

The same questions, in the same order, reaching the same desk. When you submit, the completed questionnaire is rendered as a PDF and emailed to you, to the intermediary named in section 1 and to the broker desk together, so everyone holds the same document.

1. The intermediary

Leave this section blank if the company is applying without a broker.

2. The applicant — the policyholder
3. Shareholders and directors

The principal shareholders and the directors, with their holding. A counter-indemnity is ordinarily taken from the entity that holds the assets, so this is where the desk starts.

4. Holdings in other companies

Companies in which the applicant holds a participation, and the percentage held.

5. The group

If the applicant belongs to a group, the parent company. Enclose the group chart.

6. The surety line requested

The amounts requested, by kind of guarantee, in the currency of the obligation. A company that expects several guarantees in a year asks for a facility rather than a single bond.

The contract or procedure, the wording the beneficiary prescribes, dates, and anything about the obligation the desk should know.

7. Documents enclosed

Tick the documents you are enclosing. The first two are needed for every application; the rest depend on the activity.

Enclosed with this application

Send the documents with the form, or by reply to the acknowledgement. Bank details are never collected on this form: if a counter-indemnity or collateral is agreed, the arrangements are made separately and by secure means.

Declaration

How the information is used

Controller: FDI Insurance d.a.c., registered office in Dublin, Ireland. Purpose: to study and quote the surety requested, through your broker where there is one. Legal basis: the steps taken at your request before a contract is concluded, and our legitimate interest in underwriting the risk. Recipients: the intermediary named in section 1, our associated agency where the business is placed in Spain, and public authorities where the law requires. Retention: for the life of the quotation and, if a policy is issued, for the life of the policy and the period our regulatory obligations then require. Typed here, it stands as the applicant’s signature on the copy we file. The intermediary’s signature is taken separately.

You, your intermediary and the broker desk each receive the completed questionnaire as a PDF. Bank details are never collected on this form.

The calculator on the guarantees range page gives an indicative figure for any of the ten instruments from the published rates. It is not a quotation — the desk gives that from this questionnaire — but nobody has to guess.
