Broker registration

Register for the broker portal

The portal is where the working relationship actually happens: pricing, wordings, documents and the underwriter who owns your case, all behind one login. Registering is how you get to it, and it is also how we open your terms of business — one accreditation, both things.

Already registered with us? You do not need a second account — sign in with the email address the desk holds for you. If you are not sure whether your firm is already accredited, write to the broker desk at [email protected] and ask; it takes a moment to check and saves you filling in the longer form.

What the login is for

A desk that stays open after five, and a price you can stand behind

None of what follows is a portal for its own sake. It exists because the questions brokers actually ask us — what would this bond cost, is this wording acceptable, where is my schedule — are faster to answer with the file in front of both of us.

  • Indicative bond and guarantee pricing in a couple of minutes, with the assumptions shown
  • Quotations, referrals and mid-term amendments in one place, each with the underwriter who owns it
  • Draft wordings read and commented on before anything is issued
  • Schedules, certificates and renewal documents to download as soon as they exist

Accreditation is a one-off. Once terms of business are in place, adding a colleague is something your firm does for itself, and renewals do not send you back to the start.

Which registration applies to you

Three ways in, and only one of them is long

What you fill in depends on what already exists. Read the three descriptions below and take the one that matches your situation — if two of them seem to apply, take the shorter, and the desk will tell you if it needs anything more.

A new firm

Nobody at the firm can sign in, and the firm does not hold terms of business with us.

Your firm has never placed business with us

This is the longest of the three routes, and the only one that opens an agency. We are asking for four things: who the firm is, the authorisation it holds and the reference the public register lists it under, the professional indemnity cover behind the advice, and an honest description of what you expect to place. Nothing about volume commitments, and no panel to be admitted to.

The firm accreditation form also collects the first portal users, so the account arrives ready to use rather than as an empty shell you then have to populate. Add or remove people yourself afterwards — you do not need to come back to us for that.

A broker at a firm we know

Colleagues already sign in, or the firm holds terms of business, but you have no login of your own.

Your firm is accredited and you are not yet a user

Then most of the work has been done. The firm’s authorisation and its professional indemnity cover were verified when the agency was opened and are reviewed at renewal, so the individual form is short: who you are, which firm you belong to, and what you need to be able to do — obtain quotations, submit business, or simply read the file.

It does need a countersignature from someone at the firm who can authorise the access, usually the principal, the compliance officer or whoever administers your other insurer portals. That is the only step that tends to hold this route up, so it is worth getting the signature before the form comes to us.

A network or alliance

You are a network, alliance or servicing group and your members should be able to place business under network terms.

You register member firms on their behalf

Networks are handled at network level so that member firms are not each asked for the same paperwork. The form records the network’s own authorisation, whether members place business as appointed representatives or under their own permissions, where the professional indemnity cover sits, and how commission is to be settled — to the network, to the member, or split.

It also names a portal administrator. That is the part worth spending a minute on: the administrator can add and remove member-firm users without coming back to the desk, which is generally the difference between a network account that stays current and one that quietly goes stale. Member firms that place business under their own authorisation should complete the firm form as well, and we will attach them to the network arrangement.

The forms

Download the one that matches your route

Each form is a PDF whose answers are editable fields, so it can be completed in any reader and saved for your compliance file — no printing, and no retyping into a scanner. The last page carries a button that emails the completed form to the broker desk through your own mail client, with the address printed beside it in case your reader does not implement the button. They ask only for what we have to verify or record, and none of them asks for a bank detail.

Bank details for commission are collected separately, by secure means, once terms are in place — please do not write them on a form or send them by email.

Or do it here

Register without printing anything

All three forms are here as web forms — choose your route below and the questions change to match it. They ask exactly what the printed versions ask, reach the same desk, and are treated the same way. When you submit, the completed application is rendered as a PDF and emailed to you and to the broker desk together, so both sides hold the same document and you have something for the compliance file without scanning a signature.

Which form do you need?

For an intermediary firm applying for terms of business with FDI Insurance d.a.c. for the first time. Complete every section that applies to the firm, sign the declaration, and return the form to the broker desk. We verify the firm against the register held by its competent authority and read the professional indemnity schedule before we issue terms, and we aim to decide a complete application within ten working days.

1. The firm
2. Regulatory authorisation

We check what you enter here against the public register before terms are issued, so give the reference exactly as the register shows it.

Basis on which the firm is authorised

3. Professional indemnity insurance

Please have the current schedule to hand — we ask for it once the application is with the desk. We do not need the full policy wording.

4. People we will deal with
5. What you expect to place

Ranges you intend to use

Clients you act for

Sectors, territories, existing facilities.

6. Portal users

The people who should be able to obtain quotations, download documents and track a case. You can add or remove users yourself once the account is live.

One per line: full name, email address, role.

Bank details for commission are collected separately, by secure means, once terms are in place. Please do not write them on this form or send them by email.

Declaration

Typed here, it stands as the signature on the copy we file.

You and the broker desk each receive the completed form as a PDF. Bank details are never collected on this form.

After you send it

From a completed form to a first sign-in

Five stages, and you hear from a person at three of them. Nothing sits in a queue waiting for a monthly committee.

  1. 01

Complete the form, on screen or on paper

Fill the form in online and it is submitted the moment you press the button. If your compliance file needs a signed original, download the PDF instead — every answer is an editable field, so it can be completed in any reader, saved, and signed — and sign the declaration on the last page. Either way, have the current professional indemnity schedule ready, and, where your competent authority does not publish the firm’s entry, something that evidences the authorisation.

  2. 02

Send it, and keep your own copy

The online form emails the completed application as a PDF to you and to the broker desk at the same time, so both sides hold the same document. The downloadable form has a button on its last page that does the same thing through your own mail client, and the desk’s address is printed beside it for anyone whose reader ignores the button. One address for all three forms, with a person behind it: we acknowledge receipt the same working day and say then if anything obvious is missing, rather than a week later.

  3. 03

    We verify the firm

We check the firm against the public register held by its competent authority, read the indemnity schedule, and look at the lines you have told us you want to place. Nothing is taken on trust, and nothing is decided by a scorecard. If a question comes up we ring you.

  4. 04

Terms of business, ordinarily within ten working days

A complete application is normally decided inside ten working days. You receive terms of business, and the name and direct line of the underwriter who will price your cases — the same person who answers the phone when you call about them.

  5. 05

    Your portal account is activated

Each user named on the form is sent an email link to set their own password. Follow it, choose a password, and you are in; the link is single-use and expires, so ask the desk for a fresh one if it sits in an inbox too long. From that first sign-in the firm can add colleagues without involving us.

What we do with what you send: we use it to assess the application, to verify the firm and its cover, and — if we appoint you — to administer the terms of business. We keep it for as long as the relationship lasts and for the retention period our regulatory obligations require, and we do not sell it to anyone.
