Regulatory status

Authorised by the Central Bank of Ireland to carry on the business of insurance in accordance with the European Union (Insurance and Reinsurance) Regulations 2015 (S.I. 485 of 2015).

FDI Insurance d.a.c. is a private company limited by shares, qualified as a Designated Activity Company under the Irish Companies Act 2014, registered in Ireland under number 344028, with its registered office at Elm Park, Merrion Road, Dublin 4, Ireland. Its legal entity identifier is 6354004DCXXTSLKWUZ20. It is a non-life insurance undertaking, authorised on 5 July 2001 for classes 13 and 14 of non-life insurance business — general liability and credit — and reports credit and suretyship insurance and proportional reinsurance as its single Solvency II line of business.

The Central Bank of Ireland’s register of non-life insurance undertakings lists classes 13 and 14 against our name, with suretyship written inside class 14. A host-state register may itemise that suretyship cover as a class of its own — the Spanish supervisor records the company in ramo 14, crédito and ramo 15, caución — so the classes the company operates in are 13, 14, 15. A passport does not widen an authorisation: the cover is the same either way, and only the numbering differs.

The company is privately held. Its issued share capital is held in registered form by a mixed shareholder base of financial investors — investment funds, private capital vehicles and financial holding companies — and the company is managed and controlled by its own Board from Dublin. It holds its own authorisation and carries its own capital: the solvency figures published here are the undertaking’s own rather than a share of anybody else’s.

FDI Insurance Designated Activity Company, trading as FDI Insurance d.a.c. and also known as FDI Insurance DAC, is an independent Irish non-life insurer. Its privately held share capital belongs to a mixed base of financial investors — investment funds, private capital vehicles and financial holding companies. It has no parent company and belongs to no group. Its own Board manages and controls the company from Dublin, and it underwrites on its own capital under Central Bank of Ireland authorisation C33629.

Our statutory auditor is PricewaterhouseCoopers, Spencer Dock, North Wall Quay, Dublin 1, Ireland. Accounts are prepared under Local GAAP and reported in GBP.

Terms of use

This website is published for information. Nothing on it constitutes an offer of insurance, an invitation to apply for insurance, or financial, legal or tax advice. Product descriptions summarise cover: the policy wording and schedule, once issued, are the only documents that determine what is and is not covered.

Products described here are made available through regulated intermediaries. We do not transact directly with the public. Availability, terms and pricing depend on underwriting and on the jurisdiction in which the risk is located.

Solvency figures reproduced on this site are taken from Solvency & Financial Condition Reports as filed with and published by the Central Bank of Ireland. Where a figure is reproduced, the quantitative reporting template it comes from is shown alongside it. Past figures are not a forecast of future capital position.

Privacy in short

We collect personal data through the enquiry and broker affiliation forms on this site. We use it to answer the enquiry or assess the application, to verify firms against public registers, and — where a relationship follows — to administer it. We keep it for as long as the relationship lasts and for the retention period our regulatory obligations require. We do not sell it.

You have the rights the General Data Protection Regulation gives you, including access, rectification and erasure. To exercise them, write to the Compliance function at our registered office. You may also complain to the Data Protection Commission.

Aurora, the site assistant

This site offers an automated assistant called Aurora. It is a machine, it introduces itself as a virtual assistant before it answers anything, and the panel repeats that under its name. It works from the material published on this site — the product pages, the accreditation forms, the bond pricing model behind the calculator and the figures in our filed Solvency & Financial Condition Reports — and it is confined to explaining that material. It answers in the language this site is published in.

It does not give advice. Nothing it says is a personal recommendation, a statement that cover is in place, or an offer of insurance, and no figure it produces is a quotation. It cannot bind FDI Insurance d.a.c. to anything. Insurance is arranged through regulated intermediaries, and firm terms come from an underwriter after underwriting.

Conversations are recorded so that we can answer for what the assistant said. They are held for two years, are not used for advertising, and are not used to train a model. Do not send policy numbers, payment or bank details, or personal information about a third party through the assistant; the enquiry form and the accreditation forms exist for information that needs to reach us. If the assistant will not answer a question, that is deliberate, and the desk will.

While the desk is staffed, a member of it, who introduces themselves as Anton, may join a conversation in person, either because you asked for a person or because they chose to step in. The panel says so when it happens: the heading changes from virtual assistant to operator and back again when they leave, and Aurora resumes. Messages exchanged with a person are recorded with the rest of the conversation and held for the same period. A person in this window still gives no advice and binds no cover; firm terms come from an underwriter after underwriting.

It will not:

  • Advise whether a product is suitable for you or for your client
  • Confirm that cover is in place, or issue, extend or amend a bond
  • Give firm terms, accept a risk or commit an underwriter
  • Discuss a claim, a decision on a claim, or an individual policy or account
  • Take payment details, bank details or anything else that belongs on a secure form

Complaints

Write to the Compliance function at our registered office. We will acknowledge in writing and tell you who is handling the matter. If you remain dissatisfied, you may be entitled to refer it to the Financial Services and Pensions Ombudsman.

The 12 photographs of our office at Elm Park, Merrion Road, Dublin 4, shown on our About page, are the company’s own and are not licensed from anyone. So are 55 of the photographs of places on this site, which is why they carry a place but no photographer and are not in the table above.

The film behind the homepage hero is the company’s own as well. It plays without sound, and it is held paused for readers whose browser asks for reduced motion.
